The long cherished dream of the people of eastern Karbi Anglong came to reality in 1997. It was through the pioneering effort of a group of cross-sectional visionary and sensitive minds like Late Jygya Ram Gogoi, Mr. Rajendra Rongpi, Mr. Humsing Bey, Mr. Hiramoni Sen, Late Janardan Pathak, Late Michel Lakra, Mr. Jivan Ch. Pathak, Mr. P.K. Das, Mr. Kangther Bey, Mr. J.C. Rongpi, Mr. Borsing Terang, Mr. Atul Kalita, Mr. Langtuk Timung, Mr. Wophong Rongphar, Mr. Dorsing Rongpi, Mr. Kalamsing Bey, Mr. Hakim Rongpi, Mr. P.R. Mech, Mr. S. Kalita, Mr. Jonasing Phangcho and many others that the college came to its existence.This venture Arts college was started with only 41 students and 6 teachers. Lot of concerted efforts are being made by its noble founders, the general public, the college authority and the students leaders in bringing the college under deficit grants-in-aid system of the Govt. of Assam.

The college, located in the outskirts of Bokajan town at Talbalijan, has 7 (seven) Departments, 31 Teachers, 14 Non-teaching staff and more than 800 students. As to the age of the college Library, it goes back to the year 1998 when it was started in its old building with 351 books while at present it has around 7000 books besides multifarious journals, magazines and news papers. The ideal location of the college provides a serene atmosphere with calm and green surroundings which is conducive to academic pursuits. It offers ample opportunities to students to develop their skills and talents through academic and co-curricular activities. The college News Letter has been brought out yearly since 2004.
Thus the doors of higher education for the general students of eastern part of Karbi Anglong district have been opened and much progress has been made both in academic as well as infrastructural front.Eastern Karbi Anglong College has been trying to open new courses at the college for the benefit of local students. From the session 2011-12 the college has opened a study centre of Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University in the college for the benefit of those aspirants who have droped out from general studies or those in service. Courses available are B.A. and M.A. Again, D.EL.ED. course of two years duration is offered here under K.K. Handique State Open University for the benefit of the TET qualified school teachers.
It is quite heartening to note that the College has been granted the Science Stream by the Govt. of Assam vide order No. DHE/CE/Misc/ 113/ 2020/IS dated Kahilipara, the 3rd August 2020. The first batch of HS First-year students admitted in the Science Stream of the college for the academic session: 2020-2021 got promoted into HS 2nd year. From this academic session, i.e., 2021-2022 the college plans to offer B.Sc. 1st Sem (both Honours & Pass Course). The college is well equipped with brilliant and professionally adept teaching four faculties and an up-to-date Science Lab to cater to the teaching-learning needs of the students to be admitted into the Science Stream.
